Ordering

All you need to be able to order from us is either :

a) Your prescription (less than 2 years old)

Or

b) A spare pair of glasses (made from a prescription less than 2 years old). For this option please click here here to download an order form and then order by post. There is a £10.00 charge for this option which covers the cost of reading your prescription from your existing glasses.

By law your optician has to provide you with a copy of your prescription. You are not obliged to buy your glasses from your optician, who in turn must not imply that you should.

Simply have an eye test, provide us with the prescription details and save money !

2. How can you charge prices that are so low compared to the prices charged by high street opticians and retailers?

Our company does not have the cost of running an expensive high street property. We do not need to buy expensive eye testing equipment as we do not test eyes or offer optical advice. We simply construct prescription glasses and prescription sunglasses to the details of the prescription you give to us. Our costs reflect this as the savings are passed on to you the customer.

Frames

1. What do the frame size measurements mean?

The sizes you can see with each of the frames on this website are of the same format. They are all given in millimetres, and the numbers are separated by a /. For example 46/20/135.

• The first number is the lens diameter.
• The second is the bridge width.
• The third will be the arm length.

To help with this, we have displayed against most frames, who they would be more suitable for (Small, Medium and Large).

What Frame Size is Right for You?

The easiest way to select a suitable frame size is to get the dimensions from a comfortable pair of glasses that you already have.

Most commonly you find 3 measurements on one of the arms (perhaps with the help of a magnifying glass), the first two measurements usually being separated by a rectangle - but not always.

On one of the sides or on the bridge you will usually find 3 x measurements - the first 2 measurements are usually separated by a rectangle.

The Lens Diameter is a matter of choice, but the other two will determine the fit.

They do not need to be exact, but the closer they are to your existing comfortable pair, the more likely your new glasses are to be a comfortable fit.

These sizes can sometimes also be located:

1) On the inside of the bridge

In this case the last dimension (arm length) appears to be missing but it is infact shown separately on the leg (the arm length will generally be either 130, 135, or 140

2) Under the bridge on the nose rests.

Will a frame suit me?

The easiest way to determine which of our frames will suit you is to use our innovative Virtual Mirror. Simply click on the Virtual Mirror tab at the top of the web page and follow the instructions to upload a photograph of yourself to our website. You can then view all of our frames on your own face - as if looking in a mirror ! Alternatively you can view the frames on one of our models whose photographs are already loaded for you.

The most important part of the frame that determines whether the frame will suit you is the shape of the eye pieces.

After that the overall width of the frame is the most reliable indication of whether the glasses will suit your face. We have shown the overall width of the frame next to each one in millimetres ("Frame Width"). The "Frame Width" is measured towards the front of the frames from the outside of the left arm to the outside of the right arm. We have also shown the Overall Lens Height of the frame next to each one in millimetres ("Lens Height") The "Lens Height" is measured at it's highest point

To help you decide which frames may suit you, we have indicated with most frames who they would be most suitable for (Small, Medium and Large faces).

2. What if my frames need adjusting when I receive them?

Most high street opticians will do this for you for a small charge - we are unable to make adjustments to the frames once they have been despatched.

Lenses

1. What are the lenses made of?

We supply lightweight CR39 plastic lenses for the majority of our glasses. For our Rimless Frames we recommend that you upgrade to lightweight polycarbonate lenses. For our thin lenses we use lightweight resin high-index lenses. ALL of our lenses come complete with a FREE hard anti-scratch coating. Our thin high-index lenses also come with a free anti-reflective coating as standard.

2. Do you sell Prescription Sunglasses and Glasses with Tinted Lenses?

Yes we do - you have 2 general options to choose from:

Option 1 - choose from our extensive range of "true sunglasses frames". These can either be ordered as plain sunglasses with non-prescription lenses OR you can chose to add prescription lenses at an additional cost of £25 for a standard tint with uv400 coating or £35 for a graduated tint with uv400 coating. We do offer different levels of tint (LTFs) - see below for more details on these. We do not offer a colour choice of tints with these sunglasses frames - we simply match as closely as possible to the colour of the standard sunglasses lenses that we are removing from the frames. NOTE that prescription restrictions apply to most of our sunglasses frames - our website should automatically advise you if any particular frame is unsuitable for your prescription.

Option 2 - add a tint to any of the other glasses shown on our website for just £9.95! We provide 6 alternative colours of tinted lenses for you to choose from - Brown, Grey, Green, Red, Blue, and Yellow. Our tints are defined by the light transmission factor (LTF), where 100% LTF is completely clear, and 0% LTF permits no light to pass through (solid). We offer 3 alternative LTF tints :

• 15% LTF tints allow 15% light transmission and are used for bright light situations and provide maximum protection from the bright sun especially for those people sensitive to bright lights.

• 50% LTF tints allow 50% light transmission and are good general all round tints for outdoor protection from the sun but not extreme light situations such as midday sun on the water. These 50% tints would be more suitable for driving conditions.

• 85% LTF tints allow 85% light transmission and are often used as "fashion" tints.

Lenses shown above have a 50% LTF.

Alternatively we can provide Transition lenses which are photosensitive. Transitions lenses are clear in normal light but they tint under bright light.

3. Do you sell Prescription Glasses with Transitions® Lenses?

Yes we do from just £39.95! Transition lenses are photosensitive. Transitions lenses are clear in normal light but they tint under bright light. They are perfect all round lenses, offering everyday use with fantastic visual acuteness as well as 100% UV protection and glare reduction.

They are ideal for most people's everyday lives by eliminating the inconvenience of carrying around an extra pair of prescription sunglasses but they are not suitable for use inside cars when driving, as windscreens absorb the UV-light used for Transitions Lenses to work. They are available for single vision and bifocal prescriptions.

This option can be selected at the time of ordering. The use of Transitions Lenses and Sunsensors Lenses (see below) may depend on the suitability for your choice of frame, lens type and prescription.

4. Do you sell Prescription Glasses with Sunsensors Lenses?

Yes we do from just £39.95! Sunsensors lenses are photosensitive. Sunsensors lenses are clear in normal light but they tint under bright light. They are perfect all round lenses, offering everyday use with fantastic visual acuteness as well as 100% UV protection and glare reduction.

They are ideal for most people's everyday lives by eliminating the inconvenience of carrying around an extra pair of prescription sunglasses but they are not suitable for use inside cars when driving, as windscreens absorb the UV-light used for Sunsensors Lenses to work. They are available for single vision and bifocal prescriptions.

This option can be selected at the time of ordering. The use of Sunsensors Lenses and Transitions Lenses (see above) may depend on the suitability for your choice of frame, lens type and prescription.

5. What Lens coatings and tints do you offer?

We offer :

• Anti-reflective coating for £9.95 extra;

• Hard anti-scratch coating for FREE;

• UV 400 Protective coating for £9.95 extra;

• Sunglasses tint for £9.95 extra;

• Transitions Single Vision Lenses for £39.95 extra;

• Transitions Bifocal Lenses for £75.00 extra;

6. What does UV400 Protective Coating do?

UV (Ultra Violet) 400 coating helps protect the eyes from harmful damage caused by the sun. We recommend that you add these coating on to the lenses in your prescription glasses or prescription sunglasses. Ultraviolet radiation produced by the sun is invisible radiation that can cause damage to your eyes with long term exposure.

7. What does Anti-reflective coating do?

Anti-reflective coatings help protect the lens surfaces from scratches and reduce distractions, such as glare and surface reflections. Normally, these front and back surface reflections can reduce the amount of light reaching the eyes, thereby reducing your vision in low lighting levels and glare situations, such as driving and computing. The appearance of your prescription glasses or prescription sunglasses, and your eyes themselves is also improved. The coating makes the lenses almost invisible by reducing the front surface reflectance. In addition to this, photographic and video reflection of your prescription glasses or prescription sunglasses is reduced as are the annoying reflections from your own eyes.

8. Do you supply Bifocal lenses?

Yes we do (at an additional cost of £20). Only if your optician has recommended bifocal lenses should you order them from us. Please ask your optician to make out your prescription assuming your glasses are worn 12-13mm from the eye (ie the back vertex distance)

9. What is the segment shape of your bifocal lenses?

The standard size is D28 - these are 28mm wide 'D' shaped segments that are positioned 3mm below the centre of the lens vertically and they are centred on your pupillary distance horizontally. Should you require them to be positioned further up then please state this on your order.

10. Do you supply Varifocal / Progressive lenses?

We can re-glaze customers' own frames with varifocal lenses provided that the frames are sent to us with varifocal lenses already fitted, along with a copy of your prescription. At this point in time we do not supply varifocal lenses with any of the frames we offer on the website.

11. What are High Index Lenses and what do you offer?

High index lenses have thinner edges than standard lenses made to the same prescription. As they are thinner, they are lighter and more comfortable to wear.

We recommend High Index Lenses if :

• You prefer a thin more comfortable lens option

• You have a high power prescription. A High Power Prescription is one that :

  • 1. Has a Sphere of More than +4.0 or Less than -6.0
    OR

  • 2. Has a Cyl of More than +2.0 or Less than -2.0
    OR

  • 3. Has a Combined Sphere and Cyl of More than +6.0 or Less than -6.0

We offer 3 x alternative High Index Lenses :

• 1.60 index lenses - these are approx 25% thinner than standard index lenses.

• 1.67 index lenses - these are approx 40% thinner than standard index lenses.

• 1.74 index lenses - these are approx 55% thinner than standard index lenses.

An anti-reflective coating is included free of charge on all our high index lenses. This is because they reflect more light than standard lenses. We do not currently offer High index bifocal lenses, but we can work out a price for you if you email your requirements to us on High index lenses may take slightly longer to produce - so please bear this in mind when ordering

12. What sort of Case do I get with my Glasses?

You will receive a Standard Glasses Case with your new presription glasses or sunglasses free of charge.

If you order any of our Designer Glasses (Kangol or Storm) you will receive a Designer Glasses Case at no extra cost.

Your Prescription

1. What details do I enter with ref to a 'Near', 'Intermediate' or 'Distance' prescription?

Your prescription may contain different measurements for near, intermediate, or distance categories. If so you should do the following :

1. If you are ordering bifocal lenses then enter measurements for all categories

2. If you are ordering single vision lenses for reading or close up work then chose the 'near' line

3. If you are ordering single vision lenses for seeing things far away then chose the 'distance' line

4. If you are ordering single vision lenses for seeing things in between near and distance (eg computer screens) then chose the 'intermediate' line

If you are at all unsure about which line is the most appropriate then please ask your optician at the time of your eye test.

2. What if my prescription is outside the available range?

We handle very high prescriptions but some will be outside the available range. In this case, please click here and email the prescription details to us. We will investigate and get back to you to advise what we can do for you.

3. Can I use my contact lens prescription for ordering glasses?

A contact lens prescription could well look the same as one for glasses but there are usually differences - so no, you cannot use it. You must use a prescription less than 2 years old that was issued for use with glasses to be able to order from us.

4. What is and how do I determine my Pupilary distance (PD)?

The distance from the centre of one pupil (black spot in the middle of your eye) to the centre of your other pupil is your pupilary distance. Having a correct measurement for this improves the positioning of the lenses within your chosen frames. You can either:

• Chose to use an average PD which is shown as '63' for distance vision and '60' for reading vision on the order form (this average has been determined by our dispensing opticians);

• Obtain an exact PD from your optician or doctor - ideally ask your optician at the time of your eye test;

• With the help of a friend measure it yourself in millimetres;

5. I cannot understand my prescription - what should I do?

You should fill in the online order form omitting to enter your prescription details.

You will then be given the option at the bottom of the online order form to indicate that you are posting, faxing, or scanning & e.mailing a copy of your prescription to us.

• If you are faxing it to us then send it to 0845 465 0946;

• If you are scanning and e.mailing it to us then e.mail it to clearly stating your name and order number in the subject bar;

• If you are posting it to us then send it to

We process orders very quickly indeed. If you think you have made a mistake then you are best to e-mail us immediately on Please double check your prescription and shipping information before submitting your order - and print off a copy for future reference when given the option to do so.

4. Do you guarantee my new glasses?

Before despatch, all of our glasses are inspected to ensure the accuracy of the prescription and proper alignment of the frame. The glasses are also packaged in an attractive hard case for protection.

In the unlikely event that the glasses arrive damaged or made not exactly to the specification you detailed on the order then please call us within 7 days. We will investigate immediately and, if appropriate, we will re-supply the glasses to your satisfaction.

There are three methods of payment which we accept.

2. Is the payment page secure?

Your payment and order details are sent across a secure connection that uses a high-grade encryption certificate. This means that the information is encrypted and cannot be read by anyone other than ourselves. You can see that the pages are secure because the first part of the address in the address bar changes from being http:// to https:// on pages where you can enter sensitive information. You will also see a padlock symbol or key in the bottom bar of your browser.

Please take the utmost care whenever you visit our or any other e-commerce site and in particular, make sure that nobody is able to obtain your password (if you use one). Once you have completed your purchase and to ensure all confidential information is removed, we recommend that you log off the site and close the browser window.

3. What are the postage and packaging costs?

We offer 3 x Options with regard to Packaging & Delivery :

• First Class Royal Mail Packet Post - £2.95 for the first pair of glasses and then another 50p for each additional pair of glasses ordered at the same time (eg 2 x Pairs would cost £3.45 ; 3 x Pairs would cost £3.95)

• Signed for Registered Post (same speed as first class post but safer as a signature is required) - £3.95 for the first pair of glasses and then another 50p for each additional pair of glasses ordered at the same time (eg 2 x Pairs would cost £4.45 ; 3 x Pairs would cost £4.95)

• Special Next Day Delivery - £7.50 for the first pair of glasses and then another 50p for each additional pair of glasses ordered at the same time (eg 2 x Pairs would cost £8.00 ; 3 x Pairs would cost £8.50)

For deliveries via First Class Post you do not have to be in to receive them as our packages fit through most letter boxes. For an order of £50 or over we suggest that you should use Signed for Registered Post or Special Next Day Delivery For urgent orders we suggest that you should use Special Next Day Delivery – however, please note that delivery will NOT be next day from the day you place your order. It will be next day from the day we despatch your order – please see our lead time details below. Please note that you will need to be in to receive your order via Signed for Registered or Special Next Day Delivery as a signature will be required. If nobody is available to sign for the delivery then a card will be left and your package will be held at your local Royal Mail sorting office for you to collect. Top of page

4. When will I receive my glasses?

Exactly when you receive your new glasses partly depends upon the Delivery Option you select (we have 3, see topic 3 immediately above).

However, we believe that we probably turn orders around faster than any other online retailer of prescription glasses - we should usually despatch your new glasses within the following time frames (based upon Standard Type Single Vision Lenses without any of the additional coatings offered):

• Standard, Premium, and Acetate Frames - within 3-5 Full Working Days

• Semi-Rimless Frames - within 4-6 Full Working Days

• Rimless and Bendable Frames - within 5-10 Days

• Designer Frames - within 5-10 Full Working Days.

Orders for Bi-focals, High Index Lenses, Polycarbonate lenses, High Power Prescriptions, or any orders with additional coatings (eg anti-reflective coating) or tints etc can take a little longer, but usually no more than a couple of days or so.

Please be aware that our Lab will close for Christmas on Thursday 20th December 2007 and re-opens on Thursday 3rd January 2008. Orders can still be placed during this period but they will not be processed until the re-opening date.

Three days should be added to the above timing for reglasing of existing frames and Four days where payment is made via cheque.

Please note that our lab is closed at weekends, bank holidays, and over the Christmas and New Year period. These dates are therefore not considered to be "Working Days"

If for some reason your glasses are going to take longer to produce than the times indicated above we will try to let you know.

You do not have to be in to receive your glasses our packages fit through most letter boxes, however if your glasses are being delivered via Signed For Registered Post or Special Next Day Delivery a signature will be required for the delivery to be made.

1. Can you fit new lenses into my current frames?

Yes. We can fit new lenses into Semi Rimless or Fully Rimmed frames, you will need to calculate the cost and send your frames and prescription to us.
